The tension is thick enough to cut with a knife, isn’t it?
Usually when these enlisted-vs-officers scenarios comes up, I find myself sympathizing with the officers– usually because they’re the main characters, and the random angry redshirt might as well be stuffed with straw.
In this case I find poor Calhoun particularly fascinating. He’s not a particularly pleasant character, but I think he realizes that his attempt to play hero has only made things worse, and made him even more determined to get to the bottom of the thing that he and we saw out there.
Mind you, pumping a stream of coherent energy into something that seems to be drinking the stuff like water probably wasn’t a good idea.
I have to say, as much as I dislike how everyone is acting, this might be the most interesting episode to date.
