Ok, so who is in command? Afshar’s last order was that Reyes return to the ship and be placed under confinement. Does that change now that the captain is dead and the commander is in charge? Or, is Paz in command?

Will Reyes face a court martial on returning? Her actions in directly disobeying the captain were proximate to the escalation and the death of the captain. The Trovati were planning an ambush anyway, so I guess it’s arguable. However, she intentionally sabotaged Afshar’s diplomatic efforts because she believed that she was correct and now Afshar is dead for it. That fact would not go unnoticed in the investigation to come after the mission (unless both Paz and the acting-ensign both falsify their testimony).

Regardless, Reyes is certainly is feeling the guilt of it all.

I doubt that Paz or the acting-ensign would falsify their testimony, btw.

I want another look at that staff the little high priestess is carrying, to see what caliber it is.
Assuming the tech exists in the 24th century to make a small caliber round that can penetrate and then explode just enough to shred the targets innards instead of leaving much, if any, of an exit wound, I’m not yet ruling out (pending Word O’God) that our orb-worshippers shot the captain in the back.

there’s no wound on the captain’s back when he keels over in the Aug 9th panel, and there wasn’t a bullet headed for his chest in the previous pictures. i’m concurring with Greg on this one.

I’m probably outing myself as a civilian, or at least someone who’s not a firearms expert. Explosive ammo—projectiles that explode after they leave the barrel, or once they hit something—would seem to be rather difficult to design for police/infantry small arms such as used by the Trovati presidential goons. I’m aware they do exist for rifles and machine-guns. Would the Doctor have been referring to something like a hollow-point or “Devastator” round?

We don’t know how Trovian gun development differs from that on Earth. Also, I wouldn’t put it past the president to barter for some better weapons… maybe from the Yridians, who could be playing both sides.

But as Doctor M says, “It won’t change the overall findings.” 🙂

I would speculate that there was no explosive round; he took all the kinetic energy from the bullets right into his core.
