This whole story is a train wreck.
I know Mark will pull it all together but I can’t see how. This future history is as bad as the one we’re living in.

Any future that loves top-loading VCRs is a train wreck. The story is fine. 🙂

1394d!? Don’t fall for their shenanigans, Jin, they’re obviously from an alternate universe of techno-savages! No self respecting future polity would allow widespread mind-machine interfaces unless they are a non-invasive subspace near field neural quantum servo.
