As much as I can appreciate the enthusiasm, this isn’t a choose your own adventure story on Tumblr.

Also, this storyline is infinitely stronger than the last one. I’m really liking it so far.

Reeling the shuttle back in by the line might work if it has enough reinforcement, and if the shuttle is moving slowly enough, otherwise it might require a very slow deceleration not to snap it.

Fortunately, the shuttle should continue ballistically, and if the line can transmit power, or if the shuttle has battery backups, then it might get the desired information once it has clear line of sight. The Chief’s first statement implies they might already have the sought information.

I just remembered, the shuttle crew can just use the power packs of the hand phasers as an emergency power source. In the show it was enough to hit orbit, which is far in excess of what is needed to get back into the ship.

wouldn’t a craft that is attached by a “physical line” be maneuvering by thrusters instead of the much more powerful engines?
cool though; that one character sees a problem with the “power supply” and another one concurs because the engines had just cut off.

Maybe they’ll reel the Shuttle in by the umbilical, and rig up a more mechanical craft, for instance a large, multiperson “bottle suit” with nitrogen-cold-gas thrusters and human-arm based grabbing things. Unless the anomaly is harmful to people, as well, it should work, especially if the umbilical can provide the craft life support.
