Maximum safe warp speed of Constitution-Class Starships were Warp 6.

The ship went over warp six a number of times on the show for emergencies, notably chasing the Gorn ship at warp 8 in “Arena”. Not “safe” but they did it.

I’m reminded of this exchange between Scotty and La Forge in the TNG episode “Relics”

Still though, you might expect the crew to question their hearing or something. “Did you say Warp EIGHT, ma’am?”

Warp 7 was a huge milestone to the Enterprise after the refit was made.

(Incidentally, do the TOS movies count as part of your canon, Mr. Farinas?)

By TOS’ third season, the Enterprise was more routinely doing warp 8.3 and warp 9, and then there was warp 14 in “That Which Survives”, but that was just before the engines go BOOM!
