If I’m right, the time of day she’s asking would be zulu plus three (adjusting for DST), making it 16:35 on the continent.

Most of Europe uses Central European Time, +1 in the winter (CET)and +2 for summer time (CEST).
      so it’s UTC+2 atm. (zulu +2)

I’ll be very surprised if she doesn’t use this for murder sooner or later. The only thing holding back delusional people like her from it is the fear of being caught. Having a phaser + a transporter pretty much removes that danger.
With no moral compass and no fear of consequences, it’s a recipe for disaster for everyone around her.

Also, a perfect example of a worst case scenario to show why the prime directive is so necessary, beyond just avoiding giving too-advanced technology to developing societies.

I’m not going to argue with you because I’ve been reading the different reactions to Lydia and they’re all valid, including this one. I just wonder why you think she’s delusional. Very interested in your take.

I don’t believe Lydia is delusional; I see someone who’s suffered from ptsd seeing an avenue in which she can finally effect some change. If anything, her moral compass is locked up pretty tight, rigidly tight…

Of course Mr. Farinas, you’ve just whetted out appetites…Now I want a episode that just covers “Operation Kryptonite”…

I view her as delusional because anyone who thinks engaging in the “occupy […]” kind of protests, especially a potentially more violent version like she wanted, is a viable method for positively changing society, is delusional. All the more so because her first instinct with the phaser was to destroy other people’s property. Imho, nothing good will come out of her approach, only mayhem and destruction, so her thinking she will have a positive influence on society (as she presumably wishes to since she wanted to protest etc.) is a delusion, since she really doesn’t seem like someone who will go about it in a non-violent or positive way.

Her past and the PTSD etc. are attenuating circumstances but they don’t excuse what we’ve seen her do so far, and so I get a feeling she might do much worse eventually.

I’m also very curious about what did happen during the operation kryptonite. They wanted to kill Khan but they killed children instead. Augment children, or the humans from Khan’s territory…? Either way, it’s brutal.
I hope we will see more of the past, and Khan. 🙂

Having been involved in the Occupy movement myself, I would challenge the assertion that I and my friends are clinically delusional.

Delusion: “an idiosyncratic belief or impression that is firmly maintained despite being contradicted by what is generally accepted as reality or rational argument, typically a symptom of mental disorder.”

A delusion would be the sincere belief that the sky is green, or that gremlins live in your gas tank, or that all FedEx delivery drivers are aliens. A political belief, such as faith in Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, or the Occupy movement, is an opinion. Someone who holds an opinion that you disagree with is not by definition delusional.

You may disagree with someone’s opinion of the best way to govern society, but unless that person believes the best way to govern is through the use of their own psychic powers, they’re not delusional.

Postscript: Lydia certainly has issues. She’s not entirely well, and it seems inevitable that she’s going to do something dangerous and reckless. But I think “delusional” is the wrong word to use in this context.

Like I said, she seems to want a more violent approach than the guys earlier in the comic wanted.

It’s not the involvement in a protest that makes someone delusional. It’s how and why they are going about it.
A peaceful protest is just a protest. But someone who thinks they will bring about a betterment of society through violence or looting etc., is delusional. Hence my comment about her in particular, due to how she behaved in the past strips.

Of course, not everyone involved with the occupy-type protests is the same, but in every movement there’s some people who aren’t quite as sane. The extremes of any kind attract them more.
