This is my favorite story yet. The plot is solid and the characters are all intriguing and likable even at their worst. It doesn’t hurt that it uses so much TNG concept stuff so well either. The conclusion is also an exciting balance of Kirk-ness, shoving peace down their throats, yet balanced because it doesn’t involve complete societal upheaval. What a low bar Kirk set. lol
Is that Raynar or Paz in the doorway. The Paz character as presented has been intriguing. In addition to his general agreeableness as a character, his role in the story and aboard ship seems to be doing other people’s jobs well. He’s been more of a First than the First, and more of a counselor than the counselor. Whether he’d do well in the actual jobs — with the responsibility concomitant with the power he wields — is a question so far not addressed, but I can’t help but think that if I had to lead a bunch of people into a dicey situation, I’d want a Paz or two in the group.

And now the crash.
