None of this is terribly impressive. Unless Trek really does operate under Aristotelian Physics, or the ship is in a ridiculously close orbit (which would be apparent almost immediately, as it would be orbiting very quickly), the ship would stay in orbit after reaching its orbital velocity, basically forever.
But TOS established that a ship will fall screaming to the ground within hours, maybe even minutes, after power cuts out!
