But, to be nitpicky, they’re not really different “species” if they can easily interbreed.

Young, like most humans, mixes up species and race and all that jazz. 😛

      Don’t be too sure.

TL;DR: Homo Sapiens are randier monkeys than we give ourselves credit for.

Yes, when different kinds of Homo are discovered they are usually referred to as a a new “species of human” and more often than not Homo Sapiens borked with them. So, I stand by the dialogue.

KIRK: How long would you like it to last?
    ODONA: Forever.
KIRK: Well, let’s see. Power, that’s no problem, it regenerates. And food. We have enough to feed a crew of four hundred and thirty for five years. So that should last us—
    ODONA: Forever.

Plus, if the ship is in a stable (unpowered) orbit it’ll be there for a very very long time.

How does this ship that’s been lost for however many umpteen years still have power to utilize the turbolift? Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving seeing a refit Connie, but there must be something more going on here.

We discussed this in the last strip, but let’s put it this way: the fusion drive alone could power the ship indefinitely considering it runs on the most abundant material in the universe and the ship is constantly scooping it up.

I had always kind of figured the new human thing as just the logical extension of Roddenberry’s vision for how people would just naturally evolve in a post-scarcity society (that and just oodles of toplessness) – but I like how his other projects have been folded into it for this story!

That’s what makes the comic such a fun read!
