Things are working out pretty much as I expected but the universal translator issue is an interesting one. First, I believe the universal translator has to be psychic too, it is the only way it could work so quickly, and TOS has all the basic tech to make it work that way.
Secondly, there should be no reason translators couldn’t be made to work with Kelvan language and minds. If mental translation is key to the group mind shtick, then I can understand that, it is just another form of disenfranchisement. But, not having the language work is strange since it creates a secret language for the Kelvans to communicate privately, and prevents citizens from overhearing. It seems more likely their language does get translated but only one way, leaving Kelvans to learn a Federation language to talk back.
Also, in Schlock Mercenary, skintight uniforms are used as way to subtly humiliate lower ranks, and prevent the hiding of objects. On the other hand, the same cannot be said for this situation as everyone wears skintight uniforms as civilian wear, and monitors each other through their psychic link and oppressive rules.
In Rojan’s defense, such an arrangement would probably make any male exceedingly uncomfortable and excessively aggravated. I’m surprised the outfits alone haven’t driven the Kelvans to rebellion. But then again, they are an alien species to me and I have little to no frame of reference.
Shut your scrotumless mouth!

By that logic women should have murdered everyone over high heels and corsets a long time ago.
A valid counterpoint. I’ve often wondered why people do things like that. Is it simple vanity?
Not vanity. Societal pressure. Just one example.
“Rojan 2-4-6-0-1, if you wished for a tentacle-slapping, you could have asked directly.”
Phrases I never expected to hear in Old Trek #43: “You have no SCROTUM!”
