And yet the rescue mission could not travel back to stop the assassination of the Vice President or prevent the shuttle from crash landing. The rescue team allowed the President to be exposed to future events perhaps further polluting the time-stream. Who is to say the president did not start a nuclear war because one of three “Angels” told him he was destined to do so?

Aww, no beat’em up return, but that ending does follow naturally. I dig the gist of the story, actually I like everything after hitting the satellite. At the same time it is disappointing, because I don’t find the premise believable, that of Starfleet screwing up so hard. At least not for those reasons. I feel like they were made less intelligent rather than making the future folk genuinely better at their jobs. That’s balanced by the actual focus character being uncomfortably real, and the kind of person, I’m fairly sure, we have never seen in any of the series.

For me, it would have made more sense if the experiment were to test the slingshot time travel method specifically with a shuttle. The math has an error, or the pilot’s precision is off by a thousandth of a degree or second, so the shuttle appears right above Earth’s surface, nose down, rather than ending up in lunar orbit.

Given her condescending attitude towards the people of the time period, i can’t help but feel she had that lecture coming to her.
