I like that, using diplomacy in this situation, since removing the ship does look like an easy win on the surface. But, removing the ship doesn’t remove the religion, and doesn’t remove the reasons for fighting. The same people will scramble for an explanation easily as wrong as the original. If the crew just tell the people they’re praying to a ship, the crew will probably be rejected. If the crew establishes trust first then they have a chance to say the truth and be believed. But, all of that assumes the issue is the ship, and the religion, and that the religion isn’t just an excuse to fight over an injustice which has been forgotten.
The later panels also make this a kind of flip of Tough Man Making Tough Decisions. The tough decision is to take the time to do things right.
