So this is another ‘individuals shouldn’t think for themselves or act as they see fit, because bureaucracy-knows-best so be a borg-cog because you didn’t consider all these alternative angles that we’ve already created cookie-cutter responses to.’ story?
If cookie cutter solutions have no truck with individuals who react through fear or who resist oppression then I’m neither baking nor eating those cookies.
Learn the lesson of the lion & the mouse. A ship’s captain or Starfleet command may seem powerful & capable enough to deal successfully with a life’s problems even in the future, but leave room for the scared/un-oppressed human individual. Life has a way of tailoring problems just exactly to the unidentified limitations of your power & wisdom.
Yes, my post is accusatory. Is this story another ‘don’t rock the boat & follow the leadership or you’ll be sorry once you realize how stupid you’ve been’ allegory? But hey, maybe my mind is just stuck on that theme after all the ‘Are you with her? I’m with her. We all have to be with her. Don’t rock the boat just because her campaign never says she’s with us. I’m with her and she’s good enough, just like they’ve all been good enough. Just follow the leadership. Don’t be assholes, just follow the leadership.’ Or maybe science fiction & politics never mix.
If I’m provoked… it’s a provocative story. I wonder if the author, who I’m aware is a genuine treasure, meant it to be so. 🙂
So, is this going to be Prime Directive run amok, or is this going to be a case of her report having been paradoxically altered to reflect the new society instead?

That’s quite an essay of accusations based on three lines of dialog. Jumping the gun a bit, maybe?

Is that the prosecuting attorney from TOS “Court Martial?”
