NCC-1701-D vs a Star Destroyer NCC-1701-D Avenger Class: Galaxy Imperial 1 Type: Exploratory Warship Length: 642.5 meters 1600 meters The Star Destroyer takes this. The SD's have a good 1000 meters more. Displacement: 3 million mt 15 million mt Again for the Star Destroyers. Crew: 1000+ 37,085 Star Destroyers Passengers: 5000+ 0 Enterprise is more a civilian craft, with SD a Warship. Troops: 0 9,700 SD because it is a warship. Max Speed: Warp 9.99 (7912c) .35 factors This is hard to judge.. While no "offical" information has been released what exactly "factors" mean, in a Star Wars newsletter, the following speed scale has been published. Factor X c LY/day Warp Fac ----------------------------------------------------------- .0 Lightspeed Forget it.. 1 .1 5000c (approx) 10 ly/day 9.97 .2 50000c (ap) 100 ly/day 9.9999+ .3 500000c (ap) 1000 ly/day 9.9999+ .4 5000000c (ap) 10000 ly/day 9.9999+ .5 50000000c (ap) 100000 ly/day 9.9999+ 1.0 Infinite Infinite 10 As you can see, .35 factors is about 2500000c, way beyond any measurable warp speed. While this may be false, it is safe to say that Hyperdrive is faster than Warp drive. Take this quote from Empire Strikes Back... Admiral Piett: "Lord Vader, our ships have completed their scan of the area and have found nothing. If the Millennium Falcon went to lightspeed it could be on the other side of the galaxy by now." Now, it hasn't been long since the Falcon has hid away from the SD's. Several hours perhaps, but not the 15 years at Warp 9.99 needed by the Enterprise. Since the Falcon has a Speed Factor of .5 (as stated in Star Wars), it would take him a day to cross the galaxy, thus consistent of the former quote. Now, a few Anti-Star Wars trekkies have said that sometimes "Lightspeed" is referred to when making the jump to hyperspace meant that ships could only travel at that speed, the speed of light. This has, however, been proven false over and over again. Look at the quote, at Lightspeed, it would take 1000000 years to cross the galaxy. That, and any common sense of time and distance, is that hyperlight speeds ARE NEEDED to travel ANY distance in space between stars. "Lightspeed" is just slang, as stated by several Star Wars books, just like "Warp" is slang for "Warp Factor". So, as again, SD have this category. I won't even mention the fact that a whole science is devoted to hyperdimensionality, making hyperspace all the more realistic. Weapons: 11 Phaser Banks 60 Turbolasers Photon Torpedoes Ion Cannons Here is when we split off. While it is true that SD have alot more weapons, it doesn't have the tracking capabilities as the Enterprise. Enterprise's firing is controlled by the computer, while SD have them manual. And, to the Anti-SW Trekkies again, they say that phasers are more powerful than lasers, but SW lasers are NOT lasers at all, they are coherent beams of energy, not focused light. More "slang" now. But, still, the Enterprise takes this BIG category. Overall.... NCC-1701-D: I believe that the Star Trek universe is alot more technical and detailed. Alot more science here than Star Wars. But, Star Trek favors the BIG. To be a small trader with a good Warp drive engine is unheard of. For Warp Drives, bigger means faster, which should NOT be true. To have a small frieghter, Warp 5, maybe 6 tops. But in SW, you could be the Falcon and have .5! Star Destroyer: Big, bad, and fast. Between these 2 ships one could have a bloody battle. But, if a SD wanted to, it could put all power to fore shields and ram the Enterprise to oblivion. While the Enterprise could get alot more shots off, the mere size of the SD could scare Picard to run. My Ideas and thoughts! Till next Time! NX2000A
